Letter, Number & Series Chapter of Reasoning Note with Exercise/Practice PDF

Letter, number and series reasoning involves predicting the pattern or rule behind a given sequence of letters, numbers or series. This type of reasoning is commonly observed in various cognitive and analytical assessments, including IQ tests, aptitude tests, and entrance exams.

Letter

For example, in the letter reasoning, you may be provided with a sequence of letters, such as B, E, H, K, N, ___. To solve this problem, you need to identify the pattern or rule that governs the sequence. In this case, the pattern is +3; that is, each letter is three letters after the previous one in the alphabet. Therefore, the next letter in the sequence will be Q.

Number

Similarly, in the number reasoning, you may be provided with a sequence of numbers, such as 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, ___. To solve this problem, you need to identify the pattern or rule that governs the sequence. In this case, the pattern is ×2; that is, each number is multiplied by 2. Therefore, the next number in the sequence will be 64.

Series

In the series reasoning, you may be provided with a sequence of words or images, such as circle, triangle, square, ___, ___. To solve this problem, you need to identify the pattern or rule that governs the series. In this case, the pattern is that each shape has one more side than the previous shape. Therefore, the next two shapes in the series will be pentagon and hexagon.
