MS ACCESS

DATA BASE: - 

Database is a collection of arranged data in a particular manner i.e., row and column which can be share among all users. It provides all low-level data, high level data as well as modified data to the user as per query. It should help to provide exact answer to the user.

DATABASE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM: -

Database management system is a software package which allows storing, retrieving (or) manipulating the data. It is a programme which enables the user to mention record of an organization in a systematic order.

INTRODUCTION TO MS-ACCESS: -

MS-access is a powerful DBMS package developed by Microsoft Corporation of USA. It is used to store a large amount of information. We can retrieve the data and can manipulate the data as and when required. The default extension name for the database in Ms-access is .accdb .

TO START MS ACCESS 2007: -

START ⇨ ALL PROGRAMS ⇨ MICROSOFT OFFICE ⇨ MICROSOFT OFFICE ACCESS 2007

OR

CHOOSE THE RUN BUTTON AFTER CLICKING TH E START BUTTON. TYPE MSACCESS. THEN CLICK OK.

TERMINOLOGY USED IN MS ACCESS: -

FIELD: - 

A field contains a single piece of information such as name, city, street address or phone number.

RECORD: -

 A record consists of one or more fields. A student record can have roll no., name, address and city as its fields.

TABLES: - 

A table displays records in rows and columns, much like a spread sheet. A table group related records, such as records of all students or records of all account holders.

FORMS: -

 A form displays all the fields of a single record onscreen, just like a paper form, so that you can add, edit, or view a single record at a time.

Queries: - 

a query lets you retrieve certain information based on your criteria such as only retrieving roll numbers and names of students who scored more than 75% marks in a certain examination.

REPORTS: - 

A report arranges your data in a certain way, such as showing all the students who have scored more than 75% marks in an exam. Note PDF View

CREATING A DATABASE: -

In access, every database is stored in a single file. Access can create a blank database or a database using one of many templates available locally on your hard disc or from the Microsoft website.

BASICS OF INTERNET: - 

The internet- also known as the NET – is the world’s largest computer network. In simple term, a computer network is a collection of interconnected computers that communicate with each other. The internet is not just one network- it’s a network of network where all networks freely exchange information. The network ranges from the big corporate network to tiny ones used in a school laboratory or a home network.

HISTORY OF THE INTERNET: -

The internet is a worldwide network of thousands of computer and computer networks. It is a public, voluntary, and cooperative effort between the connected institutions and is not owned or operated by any single organization. The internet and transmission control protocols were initially developed in 1973 by American computer scientist “VINTON CERF” as part of a project sponsored by the United States department of defence advanced research project agency (ARPA) and directed by American engineer “ROBORT KAHN” The internet began as a computer network of ARPA (ARPANET) that linked computer networks at several universities and research laboratories in the United States. The World Wide Web was developed in1989 by English computer scientist TIMOTHY BERNERS-LEE for the European organization for nuclear research (CERN). 

BASIC INTERNET TERMINOLOGY: -

ARPANET: -

stands for advanced research project agency network. Computer network originally developed for military purpose, by the us department of defence, as an experiment in wide area networking. The ARPANET went into service in 1969 when it connected four universities and research laboratories.

BOOKMARK: -

A saved link to a website that has been added to a list of saved links so that you can simply click on it rather than having to retype the address when visiting the site again.

DOWNLOAD: - 

To copy a file from one computer system to another. From the internet user’s point of view, to download a file is to request it from another computer and to receive it.

ELCTRONIC MAIL: - 

A way of sending messages electronically from one computer to another, generally through a modem and telephone line connected to a computer.

EMOTION: - 

Those little smiley faces people use to indicate emotions in e-mail messages or in chat rooms.

HOME PAGE: -

The site that is the starting point on the World Wide Web for a particular group or organization.

HYPERTEXT LINK: -

Also known as hyperlink. An easy method for retrieving information by choosing highlighted words or icons on the screen. The link will take you to related documents or sites.

HYPER TEXT TRANSFER PROTOCAL: - 

A standard used by World Wide Web server to provide rules for moving text, images, sounds, videos, and other multimedia files across the internet.

INTERNET SERVICE PROVIDER: -

A company that offers you access to the internet.

  • MODEM: -Stands for modulator/demodulator. A device that connects your computer to a phone jack and, through the phone lines to another modem and computer.
  • SEARCH ENGINE: - A programmer that performs keyword searches for information on the internet.
  • WEB BROWSER: - A software program that lets you find, see, and hear material on the world wide web, including text, graphics, sound, and video.
  • WORLD WIDE WEB: -A hypertext-based system that allows you to browse through a variety of linked internet resources organized by colorful, graphic-oriented home pages.
  • SERVICES ON THE INTERNET: -The internet plays a very important role in our society. It provides a lot of latest informative information about business, education etc. it becomes the main medium for advertisement, communication between users etc., the main service provided by internet are:
  • WORLD WIDE WEB: -The World Wide Web is simply referred to as web. It is the latest addition to the internet to exchange information. There is a vast network of HTTP servers that store documents called web pages and these are accessible on the internet.it is the easiest way to search and to get information on the internet.
  • NEWS GROUPS: -The newsgroups are the discussion forums that provide the services to exchange messages on the internet about a particular subject. This facility is provided on the internet on special servers known as news servers. Different newsgroups are available for different purpose. For example, a newsgroup provides the services to exchange information about business and another provides the services about current affairs etc.
  • FTP: - ftp stands for file transfer protocol. It is a way to transfer files to others through internet. The files are stored on a special type of server called the FTP server. The browser can be used to transfer files from FTP server to the client computer, but it is a slow process to transfer files.
  • ECOMMERCE: - E-commerce or electronic commerce is a very important service provided by the internet through which financial transactions are carried out over the internet. It is the modern way to carry out business on international basis. When business is conducted with the help of computer networks, this activity is usually termed as e-commerce or e-trade. Through e-commerce, goods can be purchased and sold from anywhere in the world. Credit cards are used for payments. The example of e-commerce is online shopping, online advertising, online banking etc.
